For some members, the days leading up to and including Easter Day form a busy period and the Group traditionally does not meet in Holy Week. After the celebration of the good news of Easter has been experienced anew, Easter Monday gives an opportunity for members to meet together and enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the company of our kind hosts. Stuart and Dorothy would like to have an indication of numbers attending. If you plan to attend, please phone them 8pm Friday 20th April Sale “A Banquet in the Far East” At the time of preparing this programme Peter T is undertaking a trip to the Far East. Peter spent 10 years of his career working in Hong Kong. His former close business colleagues have been encouraging him to return there for a grand reunion. So Peter plans to spend several days of his holiday in Hong Kong. During this time he will be guest of honour at a Chinese banquet. Peter has agreed to talk to the Group about the experience of renewing his acquaintance with the Orient and the friends who were a big part of his life there. For directions phone Michael J. 7.45pm for 8pm Friday 4th May (Note the time) Heaton Moor Evening Meal at the Toby Carvery By popular request, a further return to the Toby Carvery where a substantial carvery meal is on offer for around £7. Desserts are available for a modest supplement. One of the attractions of the Toby is its situation: close to Heaton Chapel rail station, on the A6 with a regular bus service into Manchester, and with very easy access from the M60 motorway (“Pyramid” exit). If you plan to attend, please phone Kevin and Phil 8pm Friday 18th May Brooklands “A Deputy Lieutenant Unmasked!” David W is a lawyer in Manchester and in 2008-9 served as the Vice-President of the Methodist Conference, the highest office that a lay person can hold in the Methodist Church. Amongst his responsibilities as one of the Deputy Lieutenants of Greater Manchester is presiding at citizenship ceremonies. David has spoken to the Group before and we look forward to his talk, delivered, we’re sure, with his customary humour and grace. For directions phone Peter. 3p.m.Saturday 2nd June Whittle-le Wood (or 2pm if fine and you plan to join the short walk) Quarterly Social Event Robert and Roger invite you to a further social event at their home, which is conveniently situated close to junction 8 of the M61 motorway. These social events are designed to provide a good opportunity for members of the Group to get together and also to welcome any newcomers. If the weather permits, Roger will lead a short walk along the Leeds-Liverpool canal, a short distance from R and R’ s home, before returning to join those arriving from 3pm onwards. There will be a charge of £5 per head towards the catering costs. (An additional charge of £3 for non-members will be refunded for those who subsequently join the Group.) Please bring a contribution to the drinks table. For purposes of catering PLEASE GIVE THE HOSTS AT LEAST A FEW DAYS NOTICE if you plan to attend. Phone Robert and Roger. 8pm Friday 15th June Sacred Trinity Church, Salford/Manchester Eucharist at Sacred Trinity A traditional eucharist at Sacred Trinity Church on the corner of Chapel Street and Blackfriars Road, just a few minutes walk from Manchester city centre. The preacher and celebrant will be one of our own members, the Rev Peter S. Worship evenings at Sacred Trinity are at the core of the Group’s activities, and your support on this evening will be appreciated.
